A Modern Approach to Seismic Interpretation

Interpretation philosophy

A Modern Approach to Seismic Interpretation” is a 5 day workshop-style course using the Petrel Suite.

Geoscientists are guided through the interpretation of a curated seismic data set using the 3D Window as the primary interpretation canvas.

The 3D Window affords a number of efficiencies over the Interpretation Window. The course introduces the interpreter to a set of powerful workflows and behaviours that leverage the Petrel toolset and have a dramatic impact on both speed of delivery and quality of the final interpretation.

The course carries the interpretation through to the production of a  structural model (Volume Based Model) to facilitate the delivery of high quality surfaces. Interpretation workflows are viewed in the context of delivering this model, removing many of the pain points encountered learning and understanding this important tool.

The course targets organisations that are migrating to Petrel from Interpretation Window-focused software as well as staff that may be sheltering in a serial 2D approach to 3D interpretation. It can also be adapted to accommodate geoscientists without an interpretation background – graduates, geomodellers, processing geophysicists. The training simulates, in an accelerated way, real project work and provides a “why (and this is how)” solution instead of a “this button does that” approach.

Live classes are limited to 6 people so participants get plenty of time with the instructor. Online classes are limited to 3 people.

The course offers practical guidance to interpreters on strategies for fault and horizon interpretation and the maturation of that interpretation network into robust structural frameworks. The techniques provided maximise the power of the 3D capabilities in Petrel and focus on workflow efficiency  and dynamic visualisation of the data set. It also covers workstation and software optimisation, volume and surface attribute generation, volume rendering and integration of well data.

Many of these skills also have direct application to the interpretation of 2D data. These are addressed in a dedicated 2D module.

We are pleased to announce that the workshop has now been run a number of times online (in both hemispheres) to excellent reviews. If this format suits your business needs, please talk to us.
